In 2013 I was a brand new mom and starry eyed about Sheryl Sandberg and her gospel of lean in. I bought the book. Bought the merch, and did even one better: I organized lean in circles for 900 mostly women at my employer at the time. Fast forward 13 years and now I run a Substack about taking career breaks and not letting corporate suck you dry. I’m utterly captivated by @Sarah Wynn Williams’s 2025 Facebook memoir Careless People. MUST read if you haven’t, @Katie Gatti Tassin (please please please do a diabolical lies episode about it and make my life)

I am on the last chapter of Careless People - lost count of how shocked I am about some of the things that she wrote about, but also not shocked 😳

Careless People is a must read. I haven’t used Facebook once since I read it 9 months ago.

Just here to say I'm so happy to read another MWK essay. And also that as someone who confidently read Lean-In as a graduating college senior, I have no faith that the organization can do anything to combat AI usage OR combat tradwives.

The alpha male camps make me so sad because it sounds like a lot of those men could actually use a week of vulnerability and introspection and they didn’t have to be redpill bullshit

I know. Exactly my thought. They need a hug and a good cry. Not mewing and Jordan Peterson yelling at them.

"The mechanical whirring sound you hear in the distance is the 2028 presidential campaign marketing machine humming to life."

Yes, AND there's an increasing likelihood that he'll be doing so as the sitting President.

As a therapist, I can’t even begin to tell you how true this part rang for me: “If you can mess something up yourself, it follows that you can fix it yourself, too.”
